Parking and refueling

To park and refuel your aircraft at airports and aerodromes in the Yukon, you need an airside vehicle operator permit (AVOP).

Apply for an AVOP

  1. Get AVOP study materials. For information, phone the:
    • training coordinator at 867-455-2885; or
    • Airport Fire Department at 867-667-8453.
  2. Fill out the AVOP application form.
  3. Complete our AVOP safety awareness training program. Phone the training coordinator for more information about this training.
  4. Make an appointment to take AVOP written and practical exams by phoning the Airport Fire Department at 867-667-8453.

AWOP exams are available by appointment at Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport (YXY). Exams are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, excluding holidays, between 
9 am and 2 pm. To make an appointment, phone 867-667-8453.

AVOP categories at YXY

There are 4 different types of AVOP permits at YXY. They have different conditions and allow you to operate vehicles in different parts of the airport.

  1. AG2 – Restricted to apron 2 and taxiway Golf
  2. DA – Restricted to apron 1
  3. DR – Restricted to aprons 1 and 2 and taxiways Echo and Golf
  4. D – Unrestricted

AVOP at other Yukon airports and Mayo aerodrome

AVOPs are required for individuals operating vehicles at the following airports and aerodromes.

  • Dawson airport
  • Old Crow airport
  • Watson Lake airport
  • Mayo aerodrome
